2025 Short-Term Fellowship Program for Young Overseas Researchers

.

On 2 September 2025, three selected Overseas Short-Term Fellows launched their research activities at the Japan Institute of International Affairs (JIIA). They successfully completed a series of programs and returned to their home countries on 21 November. Over the course of approximately three months in Japan, the fellows conducted research on territorial issues and visited a wide range of institutions and sites in Japan, engaging actively in fieldwork. The results of their research were presented at a final reporting session held prior to their departure.

Through their daily interactions with JIIA researchers and staff, strong bonds were formed. As in previous years, this year's fellows demonstrated a high level of ambition and initiative, as well as a keen desire to learn about many different aspects of Japanese society, which proved highly stimulating for everyone at JIIA. The research papers prepared by the fellows are scheduled for submission in May next year and will be published on JIIA website. JIIA will continue this program in the coming fiscal year, striving to further deepen intellectual exchange with highly motivated early-career researchers and to expand and maintain its international network.
